A Reel View

Hey all!

I have quite the commute nowadays, and all my thinking happens when I’m alone with my thoughts in the car. What has been on the forefront of my mind this past week has been the purpose of writing this blog. So, what is the goal, you ask? Well…the short explanation is that I want to pass down the “wisdom” I have learned from different lessons from my life. If it helps one person, then this blog has done its job.

This summer has been a summer of adventures for me. Music is one of the most important things in the world to me. So far, this summer has consisted of me traveling across the Midwest following my favorite musicians. I am typing this blog on an airplane flying to Denver, Colorado. Tomorrow is The Eras Tour Night Two at Empower Field. I went through TSA, figured out what terminal to go to, and boarded the plane myself.  I’m super adult-like! However, when we took off, I grabbed the man sitting next to me on the plane’s hands and cut off his circulation from holding his hands so tight because I was so scared…. baby steps.

All the adventures I have been on so far this summer have been recorded with pictures, videos, and souvenirs. Most of which I have shared on social media to let friends and family know what I’ve been up to. It’s so much fun to keep loved ones up to date on the fun and exciting things I’ve been up to and share the highlight reel of my life.

Pause.

Rewind.

Remember: My intention with this blog is to share the lessons I have learned throughout my life.

Play.

I want to emphasize that phrase. Highlight Reel. This is where social media slips into toxicity. Typically, on social media, people only share their highlight reels. People seldom share photos of the giant coffee stain on their shirts from spilling on themselves at Starbucks. They post their smiling faces holding their first red holiday cup released after Thanksgiving.

When I show my highlight reels on social media, I clarify that that is exactly what that is. I am a person who has good and bad days, just like everyone else. Please understand me. Just because life has lows doesn’t mean there aren’t highs. I’m not saying that beauty and fun can’t be shown and celebrated. I post highlights. I encourage the people who look at these posts of all these amazing reels to try and see them from all perspectives.

The power of perspective amazes me.

It’s not unusual to see someone else’s social media and start to go down the rabbit hole of comparison. You can do this with material things, your appearance, experiences, etc.

If you have kept up with my other blogs, it’s evident that I’m a big fan of the cheesy cliché quotes. So, brace yourself; here’s another one for you… “When you love everything, you have, you have everything you need.”

I sit and think about the life that I have. I have a beautiful apartment, two baby boys who love me unconditionally (my cats), great friends, a warm bed, food on my plate, and, most importantly, my health.

When I get a case of the “I want,” I take a step back and evaluate what I have. I reminisce on the experiences I have been fortunate enough to participate in. I take a bite of humble pie.

Next time you’re scrolling on socials and going down that rabbit hole, I encourage you to catch yourself and look at everything you have. There’s always a seat at the table, and I’m happy to share a piece of the pie.
